Geographic Information System or GIS as it is commonly referred to is a broad term that talks about any information system that captures, integrates, edits, stores, analyzes, manages, produces and shares relevant data pertaining to many aspects of geographical sciences. The larger domain of Geoinformatics is an academic discipline that studies Geographic Information Science using GIS. In a broad general sense, Geographic Information Science is a scientific study of underlying geographic concepts and related applications and systems and at its core, is the foundation for the hundreds of location-enables applications and services that reply purely on visualization analysis. The data is compellingly related to Earth with reference to locations, positions, distances, temperatures, weather patterns etc. and how they relate to each other. The information enables experts to not only analyze and arrive at conclusions but also enhance knowledge of spatial infrastructure, which is beyond boundaries.
GIS can also refer to different methods, processes and technologies and encompass a wide range of applications such as engineering, insurance, infrastructure, logistics, management and planning, transportation, telecommunications and many others.
Any mention of ‘dinosaurs’ brings to mind ‘Jurassic Park’!
Dinosaurs were the largest animals that ever walked on Planet Earth’s surface over 100 million years ago. To say that we are still learning about these mighty creatures even today shows the impact they have left behind on our modern civilization.
In 2013 several fossil bones were discovered by a farmer in a desert region of Argentina’s Patagonia. Researchers and archaeologists found nearly 220 bones and pieced together a mammoth creature 20 ft tall and over 120 ft long. Informally named ‘titanosaur’ this dinosaur, a giant plant-eater is believed to have weighed nearly 70 tons. The previously known largest dinosaur was the Argentinosaurus which measured 85 ft in length and was thought to weigh 50 tons. What’s even more amazing is that the bones discovered were from a ‘young titanosaur’ still in the process of growing so the adults must have been far, far bigger.
Plumbing repairs can turn out to be quite expensive, especially if a home has been lived in long enough and proper maintenance of pipes and exhausts have not been carried out regularly. However, putting together a home plumbing kit to deal with clogged sinks and tubs, dripping faucets, leaky pipes and plugged toilets is not a matter of great difficulty and doesn’t need any special expertise. Plumbing problems happen all the time in most homes and calling for a professional can sometimes be time consuming and expensive besides being impractical. In many cases, the problems can be fixed easily provided plumbing tools are at hand to deal with them.
A home plumbing tool kit can contain the following equipment. Most of them are basic tools and are easily affordable and not all need to be purchased at the same time. No home is without a screwdriver, hammer, duct tape, scissors, utility knife, tape measure, work gloves and fire-resistant cloth as these are very useful to keep around.
Customer feedback is very essential to every kind of business; it helps companies improve their products and services, delivery mechanisms, market reach etc. besides providing a deep understanding of customers and their preferences. While most companies know this, many of them don’t use the right strategies to gather feedback nor utilize the information properly to gain advantages.
Designing and preparing feedback forms is part of the strategy in getting valuable customer feedback. Choosing the correct format and a proper delivery method ensures that feedback forms are returned with exact information. Besides format, composition of questions and scale of response are equally important in a feedback form.
For those who enjoy working with wood and creating simple products, any DIY is fascinating. So is the case with picture framing. Most hobbies and DIY projects require basic tools; the more complex jobs required specialized tools and equipment for specific purposes.
Picture framing does not require any power tools; in some cases, pre-shaped molding can be purchased and cut to size with hand saws and fixed together. But having a Table Saw and a Table Router, two of the basic power tools can be quite handy.
Creating picture frames is a way of personalizing items as well as saving money on an otherwise high-priced item. Some people have turned this hobby into a money earning venture.
Some essential tools are required for picture framing; power tools are quite expensive and not really required to get started on the job.
Painting is a favorite hobby to many people. Not just the water painting or the acrylic painting that artistes rely on to make a living by turning a passion into a full-time career.
Painting which involves DIY jobs is even more exhilarating especially when you don’t have much expertise or experience in doing it. Why should only professionals do the job, painting is for everyone!
But being adequately equipped for the job makes painting an enjoyable as well as a satisfying experience. You don’t just wake up one day and decide you are going to paint a wall or an entire room; it takes planning and purchase before attempting to get on.
The old adage goes, “anything worth doing is worth doing right”. Another one says, “A good carpenter is only as good as his tools”!
A workshop can be a workplace for any kind of specific activity or job that requires particularly specific skills and abilities – e.g. automobile, carpentry and woodwork, machinery and equipment etc.
The tools in a workshop depend greatly on the specialty of work and the level of work experience. However, there are essential tools and equipment that must invariably be found in most basic workshops.
Dolphins are a diverse group of “fully aquatic” marine animals and are widely distributed around the world. They are informally grouped under the order Cetacea and are considered part of the family of marine mammals that include orcas and pilot whales. Found mostly in tropical waters along the continental shelves of the oceans, they can also be found in deeper and colder waters – e.g. along the southern coastline of Africa and the northern American oceans and feed on a variety of marine animals like crustaceans, smaller fish and squid.
The common belief that the waters of the ocean look blue because they reflect the sky is a misconception. The truth is altogether different. The ocean is blue because the waters absorb sunlight in a manner that can only be scientifically explained.
Lullabies have been around since time immemorial; they are one of the most important and fascinating things in a baby’s life. Yesterday’s sweet notes and tunes of a mother singing to her child gave way to machines and electronics playing recorded songs and tunes.
