The main function of ‘archiving’ in Gmail is; when you will get an email in your inbox, and you will mark this email as ‘archive’ then this email will go in the folder “All Mail” so that this mail can become safe for future propose. So when you need to access this email then you can easily get it from “All Mail” folder.

In other words, we can say you can use this function in your Gmail account to “Hide Old Emails” from the inbox. Actually, this function in our Gmail account helps us to make the inbox clean and to hide old emails which we want to keep safe for the future purpose.
